"From Spain to Boston, a Road to Success" - 2nd Anniversary ECUSA-Boston

Join ECUSA-Boston for a panel discussion about diverse careers in science and how to navigate the professional environment in the U.S. Four professionals will share their journeys as medical writer, pharmaceutical industry scientist, life sciences consultant, and clinician-scientist. The panel discussion will be followed by a networking reception with drink and food provided.

Panelists:

Begoña Ruiz Pérez, PhD. Associate Director Medical Writing at Biogen

Begona Ruiz-Perez is currently an Associate Director of Medical Writing at Biogen. She received her Ph.D. from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), and completed her post-doctoral fellowship in immunology at Harvard Medical School.


For over five years she was Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, focusing her research on the role of environmental factors and microbial intestinal flora on immune development in children. She then joined Eyegate Pharmaceuticals Inc. as Senior Director of Preclinical Research, where she led the preclinical programs for various ophthalmic drugs. She also worked as independent consultant specialized in preclinical and early clinical development. In 2012 she joined the Medical Writing group at Biogen and has been responsible for writing and reviewed regulatory and clinical documents, providing oversight for early clinical development programs, and manage a team of internal and contractor writers.



Jesús Páez Cortez, MD, PhD. Senior Scientist at Abbvie

Jesús works as Senior Scientist in the Foundational Immunology Group at Abbvie where he focuses on target and biomarker discovery for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.


Jesús has experienced 3 significant professional changes in the last 17 years. He has transition from having a patient focused career, an academic path development, to a basic science position in a pharma company. During his 12 years in Boston, he had to evaluate the available professional options and define which one would fit with his career and personal dreams.


Jesús is a medical doctor and holds a Ph.D. in Immunology from the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC) and trained at Harvard and Boston University School of Medicine.



Pablo Kuszelewski. MBA. Life Sciences Consultant at PA Consulting

In the last years, Pablo helped major pharmaceutical companies to improve the performance of their global clinical development and commercial organizations. Previously, he worked in a research center on cognitive neuroscience in Spain leading Public Relations, Human Resources and patient recruitment for research trials. His experience also includes working with top technology centers in northern Spain in talent attraction and recruitment.


Pablo holds a B.A. in Psychology (University of the Basque Country, Spain), a Master’s in Marketing (ESIC, Spain), and an MBA (Babson College, US). He is fluent in Spanish, English and Polish.


Miguel González Andrades, MD, PhD. Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Cornea Unit, Ophthalmology Department at Harvard University

Miguel is a clinician-scientist currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Keratoprosthesis Group at the Schepens Eye Research Institute and Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School. His research is focused on developing new materials and designs for generating artificial corneas to treat corneal blindness.
